FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR YOUTH COMPANY
Jessica Poulter always knew she would create her own dance company. It was a passion of hers to lead the next generation of performers to achieve their professional dreams. In 2019, she launched Dance Writer Youth Company at 26-years-old with 17 exquisite dancers.
Jessica started dancing at age four with Peninsula Ballet School and was awarded an RAD scholarship to its summer school programs and won The Special Dance Award from the Classical Dance Teachers Association.
Jessica did Calisthenics for 13 years and competed in the Victorian Calisthenics State Team four years in a row, winning consecutively each year. Jessica received the Dance Domain award and Excellence awards at Sandringham College for her outstanding results in VET and VCE dance in 2010 and returned to the school as guest VCE choreographer.
Jessica graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (English and Creative Writing) at Murdoch University, Diploma of Journalism at Macleay College, a Diploma of Business (Entrepreneurship) at Australian Institute of Business and a Certificate IV in Dance Teaching & Management at Transit Dance. She was a columnist in the Australian Dance Review and worked as a media partner for the Victorian Dance Festival alongside Kate Meade.
Jessica launched a blog Dance Writer that acts as a digital publication for the Arts industry. She has a team of qualified reviewers and influencer ambassadors and is also the host of Dance Writer TV which is a web series about the performing arts.
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JUNIOR COMPANY
Georgia Rollings completed her Bachelor of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2013 where she was awarded the Norma De Gruchy award. After graduating, she performed with Melbourne based company, RAWcollective and danced in Client Liaison’s film clip, ‘Free of Fear’. She performed in London with Danceayers Company in 2015.
Throughout her dance journey she has had the privilege of working with various choreographers including: Ru Atma, Emily Ayers, Anna Smith, Rebecca Hilton, Phoebe Robinson, Francis Rings, Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal and Adam Wheeler. In 2016, Georgia taught dance in schools with Footsteps Dance Company and choreographed for Locomotion Youth Dance Theatre. She was honoured to choreograph for the Dance Writer Youth Company’s premiere season and is excited to continue sharing her passion for dance with the Company.
Alanna is our resident singing director. She started singing from an early age, born into a family of musical performers.
She made it to the Top 60 of The Voice in 2019 and has trained in AMEB classical singing.
Alanna attended Ministry of Dance where she had extensive private singing lessons and also trained with coaches from WAAPA.
Alanna has performed in the lead of all her school productions, at every Dance Writer Charity Gala and many other gigs.
Alanna is also a highly skilled tap dancer and musical theatre performer. Plus, a fitness trainer and powerlifter in the making. A jack of all trades!
RESIDENT CHOREOGRAPHER AND ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Kirsten Chapman is a Melbourne-based professional dancer and teacher. She currently trains full time at Patrick Studios Australia in Elite Dance Performance. She began her teaching at Kinect2Dance, which is a company that works within primary schools to inspire children to express themselves through dance. She previously did competitive gymnastics for eight years and danced at NICZ Dansation in the styles of Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop. Kirsten won the Annual General Scholarship at NICZ Dansation in 2018.
She has performed in many dance events and theatre productions some of which include: ‘Circle of Life’ fundraiser, Dance Writer Charity Gala’s ‘Little Heroes’ and ‘HER’, Dionysus Theatre’s ‘Blood Wedding’, Drag Ball evening. Kirsten guest choreographed for Dance Writer’s premiere season and became a resident choreographer and assistant director in season two.
